Jesus, when sending out His disciples for ministry, told them that there are plenty of opportunities to make a difference in their world. In what is known as the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7), Jesus told His disciples that they are the "salt of the earth" (5:13) and "the light of the world" (5:14-16). In other words, they are role models for their world. These calls are not meant just for those disciples who were with Jesus on the mountain but also to everyone who has decided to follow Him in every generation.
Our generation is desperately looking for role models. The generation thrives on instant heroism and spectacular performance, which gives birth to the celebrity cult. However, these role models leave their followers disillusioned because their heroism and fame are not backed up by character. In other words, they cannot sustain their claims are not consistent with their lifestyle. The followers soon found out that they have been elevating the wrong person. No wonder the generation seems to have lost the way and helpless (as well as hapless) like sheep without a shepherd. Jesus proposed a kingdom lifestyle, where there is no boundary between the public and the public lives. Jesus called on his disciples in every generation to model this type of lifestyle to their generations.
This call to kingdom lifestyle and the desperation of our generation present tremendous opportunities for Christians in our generation to make a difference. We believe that this lifestyle calls for daily mutual encouragement for Christians. We believe that weekly meeting in our congregations cannot produce a kingdom lifestyle that will make a difference in our generation. However, with every Christian encouraging one another daily through a network of prayers and mutual discipleship kingdom lifestyle can be developed.
A World of Opportunities is concerned with developing a network of Christians, who are a connected through prayers, daily encouraging one another to live out their kingdom lifestyle in every area of their influence. It is based on Christ's observation to His disciples that "the harvest is plentiful". This means that the opportunity is always their to make a difference, the challenge is making those opportunities count. A World of Opportunities seeks to encourage Christians to make the opportunities that come their ways everyday. The idea is not to continually pray for opportunities to make a difference but to make a difference with the opportunities we have every moment of the day.
You can make a difference!!!
